What is going on with CREE?

My favorite clean energy play for the past several years has been CREE, a manufacturer of Light Emitting Diodes or LEDs.

I see the price down here, so I run the chart a two year with 50 day and 200 day moving averages.

It was a great play two years ago, but you can see the last year has been filled indecision and no direction.

The market of LEDs is rapidly expanding and competitors are multiplying like rabbits.  CREE is still the leader, but this chart suggests the it is having its lunch eaten.

First, LED market will continue to expand.  Second, CREE has the lead in designing new and practical products.  While the chart suggests a weak stock with negative slopes on both 50 and 200 day moving averages, I like the way it has consolidated here at $49-50.  If you don't own it now, take a nibble, up to two percent of your account.
