$1.25 Trillion is a transformative sum
Dear President Obama,
$1.25 Trillion is a transformative sum of money that you are about to borrow, but how you plan on spending it is going to bankrupt the United States. At this time it is not about how fast you can spend this much money, it is about how smart you spend this much money.
Here is my plan.
$200 billion into green energy production.
$ 50 billion Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline.
$500 billion into national grid.
$100 billion into University Research on energy
$200 billion into k-12 school deferred maintenance (pro rata to States)
$200 billion into Transportation infrastructure.
Say yes to the Alaska Gas pipeline and that will use up three years of domestic steel production.
The sooner the states are certain that this money will be there, schools and transportation departments can get contracts started now. Construction inventory is low so the manufacturers will need several months lead time to build the inventory. The sooner the people who issue contracts have the money, the sooner jobs will be created.
You are going to need to grab a 2x4 and beat the environmentalists into submission if you want to build out a smart grid. Between them, the States and the Courts it will be a nightmare navigating easements, rights of way, wilderness, and private property owners. Declare the smart grid a National Security Priority and cut the red tape. Design and build an efficient system in consultation with interested parties, but do not let anyone of them stand in the way of National Security Grid.
Not enough inventory to meet this level of demand, do it too fast and you just create inflation. A three to five year program to improve the quality of Untied States energy, education and transportation infrastructure will create the ideal climate for economic recovery.
