Foreign Tourists

As I watch the United State's dollar trade at a discount to Canada’s dollar I am looking forward (as an economist and investment person) to next years tourist season in the United States.  I live in Juneau, Alaska and tourism is a huge industry here and has a dramatic impact on our local economy.

What do I expect for the tourism industry given the change in global currencies?

  • Americans will travel domestically if at all.
  • Europeans and Asians will have great purchasing power if they choose to travel here and they will.
  • Influx of foreign tourists will severely test TSA and American security systems.  Tourism industry will force Congress to relax its assault on our guests.

What are the investment opportunities?

Hotels, resorts, Las Vegas, casinos, Disneyland, Cruise Ships, personal identification systems, security screening systems and entertainment focused on non-citizens are just a few examples if we can make coming here attractive enough to overcome the obstacles of our inept security systems.
